Yes! I can already hear you complaining about the scorching heat. I know you are not overreacting because I can feel it too. The heat is just too distracting in doing my daily chores. Even the air coming from the electric fan feels like a heater, do you experience that too? Well, I think I have good news for you! Do you know that a Bicol-based Engineer invented a thermal insulating powder? This can help our walls eliminate the absorption of heat. And this could be just our El Niño solution.
A 46-years old Civil Engineer from Mabolo, Naga City Bicol, Engr. Dexter De Castro discovered a thermal insulating powder that can be mixed with paint, skim coat, cement, and other binders during construction. It can also be applied on wood, concrete, metal, and even glass. They see this as a great solution in decreasing the intense heat entering houses or buildings. When the heat penetrates into the walls or concrete of your houses by the use of this insulating powder it eliminates and makes it cooler for the inside. This is made up of soil and silica clay or white clay.
First, it is processed through a conveyor that filters the silica or white clay from big and small particles. Then it will enter the rotary dryer together with other ceramic materials. After this process, the finished product will be in a powder form and can already be used and mixed with construction materials .
This insulating material was tested on a galvanized roof. One roof was applied with a paint combined with an insulating powder and the other one remained as is. The roof with a regular paint and no thermal powder got a temperature of 52.3 degrees Celsius and the other with the thermal powder got a 45.8’ Celsius of temperature. Resulting in a -6.5’C or about 80% reduction in heat absorption.
Engr. De Castro developed it in the year 2019, this was also proven effective since it has similar properties used by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in their space shuttles. NASA also uses these pre-cracked ceramic tiles, silica content, alumina, and nanoceramic particles in their space shuttles when they enter the earth from space.

Having this aerospace technology, an Engineer named Juncal Parco put it to test. He applied it to walls that were directly exposed to heat. In just 2 coats of this insulating material, he had already noticed a significant reduction in the temperature. According to Engr. Parco, he observed a change when he sleeps and has contact with walls it feels cooler compared to when there was no insulating coating applied.
After that , he already used this for his residential projects and his clients gave positive feedback.
Of course we can get very curious about this, but worry less because it is already available in the market, for a kilogram it is sold for ₱330 and ₱1,620 a bucket.
